25. Mini lesson: when to use a preposition for /použitie predložky pre

„For“ is used to indicate duration, or an exchange. It can also express recipient.

„Pre“ sa používa na označenie trvania (for 2 hours, dve hodiny) alebo výmeny (I give you bread for 3 rolls/ Dám ti chlieb za tri rožky).  Vyjadruje tiež príjemncu (This is for you. /Toto je pre teba).

Examples/ Napríklad

This gift is for you. Tento darček je pre teba.

He traded his toy for candy. Vymenil svoju hračku za cukríky.

He was working for eight hours. Pracoval osem hodín.

Translate/ Prelož si

Kúpila som darček pre moju maminu na narodeniny.     I bought a present for my mom’s birthday.

Na autobus sme čakali hodiny.                                       We waited for hours for the bus.

Predal auto za málo peňazí.                                          He sold his car for little money.
